Are you doing what you say? Words matter, look around you: it’s the words that take you or don’t take you. In political campaigns, they are crucial. Obama won the election with “Yes, we can. But then it starts: are we going to do it? Can you live up to your words? In politics, especially in our coalition landscape, this is sometimes quite difficult. In ordinary and certainly working life, however, you must always go for making your words meaningful. Otherwise, as a leader of your organization, you become implausible and people become disappointed. Delivering on what you say or promise is most difficult in organizations, not least because circumstances today can change rapidly. Therefore, doing what you say is different from being obstinate. Therefore, after the “words,” it is good to share the plan of “doing” and come up with examples that show that you do what you say. Take the simple things that are visible such as: hand in your input for the meeting ahead of time. So say and do. And that is often a problem.
